How long does a memory foam mattress last?

A good memory foam mattress should last 10 to 15 years, provided that it has a high density. That is where Tempur distinguishes itself from other brands: its mattresses have a much higher density than all other memory foam mattresses.

In addition, their ventilating properties are crucial. If you buy a mattress that does not ventilate sufficiently, you can easily start feeling too hot. Needless to say, this can be unpleasant, especially during the warmer months. Tempur has also responded to this with its latest developments.

Visco, NASA or Tempur?

Sometimes they are labelled visco mattresses, visco-elastic mattresses or NASA foam mattresses. In fact, the American space organisation NASA first developed the memory foam that is known as 'Temper Foam'.

In the end, the material was never used in an outgoing space rocket, but it really became known when the Danish company acquired the licence to further develop the product into mattresses and pillows. They were initially sold to hospitals and nursing homes, but nowadays they are used in countless bedrooms all over the world.

Today, Tempur is the only mattress and pillow brand licensed by the US Space Foundation to use the 'Certified Technology' seal.
